Like Tahirih (1815-1852), the woman who inspired our mission, these impressive girls and women are agents of change in their own communities. They range in age from 11 years old to 76; from 5th grade students to post graduate levels.
We have also supported research for the historic one-hour documentary film, “Wednesdays in Mississippi.” This all-women production examines the quiet revolution that took place in the summer of 1964 in Mississippi when a group of Black and White women reached across the chasm of race, class, geography, and religion to end segregation in America.
We remain committed to the education of girls and women around the world, thus improving living conditions as well as quality of life for both family and community. Contributors like you help us continue our work to help advance gender equality and empower girls and women.
According to the United Nations:
- There are almost 900 million girls and young women aged 10-24
in our world.
- Of the world's nearly one billion illiterate adults, two-thirds
are women.
- Two-thirds of the world’s 130 million children are not in school,
and they are girls.
- One in every four households in the world is now headed by a
woman.
- Of the world's 1.3 billion poor people, it is estimated that
nearly 70% are women.
