THE TAHIRIH ASSOCIATION is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) membership organization administered by a Board of Directors and Advisors

THE TAHIRIH ASSOCIATION is dedicated to promoting the vision of Tahirih (TA-hear-ay), who lived from 1815-1852. She was one of the earliest women in the struggle for human rights and equality. This legendary 19th century Persian poetess and legal scholar has become known as Joan of Arc of the Eastern world. Tahirih was a transformational leader who called for social and religious freedom at a time when she herself was not allowed such rights. Tahirih's courage, commitment to justice, and sacrifice remain an inspiration to all.

THE TAHIRIH ASSOCIATION endeavors to empower and motivate individuals; promote equality of all people; fosters social well-being, harmony, world unity, and universal brotherhood; advances gender equality; and utilizes the arts to educate the public about Tahirih's mission. Contributions support a wide variety of educational programs with emphasis on art and science programs.

THE TAHIRIH ASSOCIATION grants educational scholarships to women, youth, and individuals around the world who demonstrate excellence in artistic expression, technology and science. Scholarships are awarded annually with priority given to female applicants. Scholarships may also be granted in co-sponsorship with other educational institutions, social and economic development programs, or religious institutions.

THE TAHIRIH ASSOCIATION produces educational materials related to the life of Tahirih, women's history, and information about the ongoing struggle for universal human rights. The association also receives proceeds from merchandise related to these themes; these proceeds are utilized to help fund our scholarships. Current products include two music CDs, A WOMAN AND HER WORDS - The Story of Tahirih and SOLACE OF THE EYES - The Songs of Tahirih.

A WOMAN AND HER WORDS - The Story of Tahirih, the original cast recording of the theatrical music drama. This remarkable music drama is based on the true story of Tahirih. This production has been described by critics as extraordinary for its clarity, intellectual presence and lush music which garnered GRAMMY entries in ten categories including Best Musical Show Album.
SOLACE OF THE EYES - The Songs of Tahirih, an easy listening music CD featuring Tahirih's powerful and elegant poetry only recently translated into English. This soulful music album is sung and composed by award-winning musicians.

THE TAHIRIH ASSOCIATION bestows the Tahirih Award to outstanding individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service improving the status of women or improving human rights in the world.

THE TAHIRIH ASSOCIATION commemorates National Women's History Month (March, U.S.) in an effort to focus public attention on the continuing challenge to promote gender equality, elevate the status of the girl child, promote the oneness of humanity, and emphasize the importance of human rights.

THE TAHIRIH ASSOCIATION offers specially designed courses for adults and children with emphasis on art, music, dance, writing, public speaking, drama, theater production and computer sciences. Faculty is composed of educators actively involved in the performing arts or computer sciences. Courses may be offered in co-sponsorship with other educational institutions, social and economic development programs, or religious institutions. Cooperatives with like-minded organizations are welcomed.

THE TAHIRIH ASSOCIATION promotes the equality of women and men through lectures and workshops offered in educational, corporate and creative environments.
